Thu, 30 November 2006 Since before the invasion of Iraq, Charles Rangel has been proposing a reinstatement of the draft. Ostensibly it's about "sharing" the burden of defending our country, but in reality it's really about grabbing headlines. Part of hippie folklore is that the military draws disproportionately from the poor and minorities. This buttresses their belief that if the privileged classes shared the burden, there would be no war in Iraq. Bob and Mark discuss this and show that it is patently false. America's armed forces are one of the few institutions that actually closely mirrors demographic characteristics of the American population as a whole.
