In this episode they talk about the Walter Reed "scandal." From there it's on to Danish leftists rioting over not being allowed to squat. Bob makes the observation that it's time to put the Socialist back into National Socialist. Lastly, they discuss economist Dean Baker's thoughts on the recent DOW down turn.

#26: The Working Poor

In this episode Bob and Mark revisit poverty. Many on the left have transformed the poor into the most sacrosanct segment of our society. Any honest criticism of the poor is dismissed with a wave of the "blaming the victim" rhetorical wand. They discuss the case of Brenda Kelly, just one of the many props that leftists trot in order to garner support for their anti-poverty programs. Bob and Mark refuse to be cowed by the "blame the victim" tactic and point out that the true "solution" is the re-introduction of personal responsibility. In this episode Bob and Mark discuss the rather marked differences between libertarianism and libertinism. The distinction is fine because both share a common root, the desire to conduct one's life as one sees fit. Mark would like to let everyone know that Charles Morgan, not Murray, wrote "Liberties of the Mind." It's an obscure book, but you should be able to get it through your local library.

Hugo Chavez won re-election to become the President of Venezuela. In this episode Bob and Mark discuss the effect that his presidency will ultimately have on this country. Little reported is how corrupt the Chavez regime is. Like all other populist movements before him, ultimately all that changes is that the corrupt class is replaced by a new "revolutionary" class that becomes just as corrupt. As usual progressives over-look the reality of what is ocurring choosing to be blinded by the dazzling vision of the State organized to help "the people." As progressives have been doing since the Bolsheviks, they cheerlead and cover up for dictatorial and corrupt regimes in order to keep the socialst faith. Being infidel's in the minds of socialist sangha, Bob and Mark take a look at what Chavez, and his fellow travellers, will ultimately do to the region and the poor that they are supposedly so concerned with helping. At 23 minutes in there is a discussion about the nature of poverty that is a MUST hear. In typical Hippie Killer fashion an objective discussion of poverty is given that will provide criteria to guides one's thinking when it comes to evaluating the various prescriptions put forth in an attempt to solve this problem.

Since before the invasion of Iraq, Charles Rangel has been proposing a reinstatement of the draft. Ostensibly it's about "sharing" the burden of defending our country, but in reality it's really about grabbing headlines. Part of hippie folklore is that the military draws disproportionately from the poor and minorities. This buttresses their belief that if the privileged classes shared the burden, there would be no war in Iraq. Bob and Mark discuss this and show that it is patently false. America's armed forces are one of the few institutions that actually closely mirrors demographic characteristics of
the American population as a whole.

Now hey are using the war against islamo-facism as a pretext for imposing their agenda. The oil-haters amongs us have latched on to ethanol as the heir apparent to "big oil." In an unholy alliance of interests, the Eco-fascists are teaming up with America's corn farmers to foist ethanol as the most viable alternative to oil. Bob and Mark discuss the various proposals and point out what is hype and what is promising. Just to prove that they are unbiased, this entire podcast was fueled by ethanol.

Bob and Mark use the arguments of one the internet's most popular progressives, Jack Clarke, to show how support for the Estate Tax is really nothing more than envy-fueled revenge. Far from actually serving its purported purpose of fairly redistributing wealth, the Estate Tax is actually a wealth destroyer, which serves only to increase the distribution of poverty. In this episode Bob and Mark respond to an audio clip made by Jay from Best of the Left Podcast. Jay and Mark had exchanged a few messages and Jay said that this clip lays out his rationale for supporting a progressive state. Naturally, THK does not agree and they go on to tell you why. Mark goes off on a few digressive expansions about the anthropology of groups and the Platonic Republic fallacy which he feels undergirds progressive assumptions about how the world works.

Mark has also finally figured out how to use the software compressor better so this should be the best sounding episode yet. THK apologizes for rolling out this episode a little late. There were some hosting issues with Libsyn that took a little longer to work out than expected.

Today Bob and Mark discuss the Living Wage movement. Across the country Hippies have mobolised on a municipal level to pass Living Wage legislation. The Living Wage is basically a mimimum wage that is arbitrarily set to match what a single wage earner would need to earn in order to support a family of three or four at the poverty line. We excerpt a a fairly common argument for a living wage from Jack Clarke's podcast, Blast The Right. Recently I had a life changing experience that I just have to share. I was listening to hour two of the November 16th, 2005 episode of Free Talk Live. Ian, one of the hosts, posited that intellectual property rights are bad for consumers because they limit consumer choice thereby inflating the price of goods. Furthermore, I learned that these government created rights are used solely to enrich the rights holder at the expense of the product consumers.

Needless to say I was floored, just as I am sure you are too, by this economic insight that I had never considered. This revelation has inspired me to create my own podcast in order to do my part in fostering consumer choice.

Judicial Activism, Words still have fixed meanings

Bob and I have decided to pull this episode. After much deliberation we have decided that this episode is not consistent with the vision we have for the show. While we still maintain the opinions we espoused, we believe that the way they were expressed (juvenile and crass) detracts from our message. This message is contentious enough and has no need for a "shock jock" style.

We're back with episode number two. In this episode we tackle an issue that is not only timely but near and dear to our hearts, judicial activism. This episode is more issue-centric than the last one. Try as we might, judicial activism is just not the humorous subject we thought it would be. That could also be because we didn't get nearly as drunk as we did in the last episode. We'll be perfectly honest with you folks, if you have no interest in the ongoing debate about judicial activism, you really should skip this episode. While Bob and I entertain ourselves immensely when we talk about this kind of stuff, we recognize that it can be torture for the uninterested. If you are interested give this episode a listen because we believe we have a unique viewpoint on the matter. Be sure to check in on the blog for further articles expounding on judicial activism.
